The time it was about SDCC 2019

SDCC is always a thing. I’ve been lucky to have gone for the last eleventy billion years and this year is my 5th year as press.  This year, Michelle and I said yes to a few press events, so we were doing extra things.

Wednesday

Wednesday found us going to the Amazon Prime Video Experience. After we spent the afternoon eating all the food and trying all the activations, we headed into the con.

Preview night is all about saying hi and seeing the booth schedules. We made the rounds and met some people and sort of called it early.

Thursday

Thursday morning had us up early and heading to the everything line for the Leigh Bardugo ticket pull.

The line up was at 7a and the drawing started at 9a. Once it started, the break off made everything go pretty quickly. The first round of pulls didn’t get us anything. The woman told us that we could go through the line again and keep trying, so we did.

Hubs and his amazing luck came through for us twice and Michelle and I were able to go to the signing.

We headed onto the floor as we had an meet up appointment with someone from Berkley. As we got to the Penguin section, Ally Condie was there signing finished copies of The Last Voyage of Poe Blythe. When you bought the book, you got a tote and an arc + a crazy gorgeous bookmark, so of course we did that.

We got to Ally and chatted about the bookmark and how pretty it and the cover are. After we did that, we ran for the meeting before heading over to S&S for Christina Lauren.

We saw Christina heading over to the booth and hugged her and flailed all over her for a second. She had to go over, so we also went to the table to see about getting lined up. The booth workers led us to the middle of the aisle. When we got to the booth, we were able to pick any book to have the ladies sign.

I grabbed The Unhoneymooners because I didn’t have it yet and while the lovelies signed it, we talked about how we see each other only at con and how Christina still hadn’t sent me something she said she would a few cons ago.

We headed over to the press room and I worked on some blog stuff. And then it was time for the Leigh and Erin signing. We were able to get into the corral at 1p. There were arcs for Starless Sea and swag for Ninth House and the gorgeous new poster.

I got to Erin first and Leigh asked her if she had ever met me before. Erin and I both said no and Leigh introduced me and said I was one of the best. I gushed to Erin about how gorgeous the title pages of her books were and she told me it was the same person.

As I got to Leigh I congratulated her on winning the Inkpot award. And as usual, I flailed all over her about the gorgeous poster and how much I loved it. We chatted for a minute or so before I thanked her for everything.

The last signing we had was to see Margaret Rogerson. The line up was open and we headed in. It didn’t take long before I was in front of her. I flailed about Sorcery and how much I loved Silas. She had the prettiest enamel pin for Demonslayer and of course I took one.

The schedule was cleared for us and we were planning on leaving early. On the way out, we saw Joe Gatto was doing a signing for charity money, so we went through the line and Hubs got a selfie and bought some swag.

And as we headed back to the car we saw some great cosplay.

Friday

Friday morning had us going straight to Penguin for a ticket drop and then the Fierce Reads booth for the Jess Rothenberg signing. I loved The Kingdom, so I was excited to finally meet her and flail about the book. Of course, when I got up to Jess, I did just that.

We walked around and got more cosplay shots. There was a set up of Harry Potter characters, but of course I was loving the Bellatrix and Sirius.

From there, we went up to the press room for snacks and lemonade and recharging. We spent about 90 minutes before heading back down to Dark Horse and found some UA cosplay

Gabriel Bá was a priority for me and I was nearly beside myself with excitement. Dark Horse opened the line up ten minutes before the signing and Gabriel got there right after.

We got up to Gabriel and I thanked him for coming and I know I said more words, but I legit cannot tell you what they were. I’m sure I made a fool of myself.

We had tickets for Renée Ahdieh and got in line for that just beforehand. It didn’t take long before I was up to her.

When I stepped to the table, Renée saw me and said that she needed to stand up. We hugged and I flailed about The Beautiful and the new cover of The Wrath and the Dawn. She asked where my worse half was and I pointed to Hubs and they chatted for a second before saying goodbye.

After Renée, Hubs and I headed over to the Hilton and we met some of the cast of The Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy, and Duck Tales.

And after the press area closed, we decided to call it a day and headed home.

Saturday

Saturday had us starting out at the Hilton and relaxing.  We found a corner seating area and settled in. We ended up ditching all of our plans for the day to stay in the press section…

…and we met and/or saw the casts of Walking Dead, the Mayans, Riverdale, Black Lightning, Supergirl, Black Widow, Snowpiercer, The Expanse, The Boys, Witcher, and the cast from the Women Who Kick Ass panel.

I lost my fangirl mind and was able to get photos with Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Ryan Hurst, Kevin Smith, Daveed Diggs, Sarah Chalke, and David Harbour.

Sunday

Sunday morning had us at the Fierce Reads booth first thing to see Hafsah Faizal. I’ve been friendly with her online for a couple of years and I was so excited to see that she was appearing.  When I got up to her, Brittany introduced me and said some nice words.  I actually kept it together and told her my SM handle and thanked her for coming.

We had some time to kill between signings so we headed over to the press room to charge things and eat some snacks.  We met up with Jess just before the romance panel signing.  When we got into the line, we saw that there were early copies of The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai and everyone bought a copy.

I got up to Tessa Dare first and flailed over the full cover prints of her upcoming book The Wallflower Wager. We talked about how gorgeous the new cover was and I asked for one to be signed.

Jen DeLuca was next.  We had been given arcs of her upcoming book, Well Met, while in line.  I told her that I was excited to read the book and how her publicist had raved about it. We then co-flailed over her publicist and talked about how great she was.

The last author I had was Alisha Rai.  I had seen her a couple of weeks ago when she was at Mysterious Galaxy.  I asked her how her con was going and told her how I loved the cosplay photos she had posted on IG.  I told her how excited I was for the early copy and she said that she didn’t know they were going to be there.

Hubs and I tried to get into the Ghost Adventures panel, but the line was way too long to get into the room, so we headed back to the autograph area to hang out.  When the YA panel signing started, we went to say hi to Mary Pearson and I desperately needed to squeeze AG Howard.   Annnnd after I did that, we headed over to the Hilton.

Hubs and both were both accepted to be part of the press conference for Ghost Adventures.  After that was finished, we walked towards the car and debated going back on the floor for one more circuit…instead, we decided to call it a day.  So here’s some of the Steves and Robins I found.

As always, SDCC is so much fun.  Now the countdown for next year starts.

There were so many great cosplayers, it’s nearly impossible to get photos of everyone.
