The time it was about Death Prefers Blondes

When I got the invite to take part in a blog tour for a heist-y book with drag queens, I was in.  I am a huge fan of all things queen related and Death Prefers Blondes sounded like everything I could have wanted.

Before we get to my top 5 reasons to read, let’s check out the book.

Title: Death Prefers Blondes
Author: Caleb Roehrig
Pub Date: January 29, 2019
Pages: 448
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Find it: Macmillan | Indiebound | B&N | Amazon | Goodreads

Teenage socialite Margo Manning leads a dangerous double life. By day, she dodges the paparazzi while soaking up California sunshine. By night, however, she dodges security cameras and armed guards, pulling off high-stakes cat burglaries with a team of flamboyant young men. In and out of disguise, she’s in all the headlines.

But then Margo’s personal life takes a sudden, dark turn, and a job to end all jobs lands her crew in deadly peril. Overnight, everything she’s ever counted on is put at risk. Backs against the wall, the resourceful thieves must draw on their special skills to survive. But can one rebel heiress and four kickboxing drag queens withstand the slings and arrows of truly outrageous fortune? Or will a mounting sea of troubles end them — for good?

Sounds good, right?

And now, my top 5 reasons to read Death Prefer Blondes

  • the queens — I said this already, but yeah.  I’ve been watching RuPaul’s Drag Race since season one and I’ve seen every single episode of all of the things, including Drag U
  • the representation — main characters that are POC + bisexual, queer, and nonbinary rep
  • the dialogue — there are so many great lines and some excellent banter and we all know that’s my favorite
  • the found family — I am a firm believer that family doesn’t have to be blood and this highlights that idea
  • the action — this book starts off with a bang and doesn’t let go

Having also lived in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Helsinki, Finland, he has a chronic case of wanderlust, and can recommend the best sights to see on a shoestring budget in over thirty countries. A former actor, Roehrig has experience on both sides of the camera, with a résumé that includes appearances on film and TV—as well as seven years in the stranger-than-fiction salt mines of reality television. In the name of earning a paycheck, he has: hung around a frozen cornfield in his underwear, partied with an actual rock-star, chatted with a scandal-plagued politician, and been menaced by a disgruntled ostrich.  website | twitter | instagram

I pre-ordered this one as it’s my favorite kind of read, but it has to wait until I get two promised books read for review. Then, I’m jumping in!
