The time it was about romance books

hello all!  it’s been forever and a day since I did a discussion post and even though I’ve have a few topics outlined on my phone, I just haven’t quite found my way back to the blog in a full time basis.

However, I saw Jen at Pop! Goes the Reader posted this tweet talking about her new romance feature and this was an idea that wouldn’t leave my head, so here we are.

this month’s topic is: romance books

I started reading romance books casually a couple of years ago.  I used them as a palette cleanser from all of the YA I was reading, but other than leaving reviews on GR, I never really talked about reading them. Flash forward to the present and while I’m still mostly reading YA, I’m reading a lot a lot a lot more romance.  I’ve recently dipped my toe into the historical genre and loving all of the sassy, headstrong ladies and dashing rakes.

…but I digress.

Tessa Dare was recently at Mysterious Galaxy and I was so excited.  I had read and loved a couple of her books, but as I planned to take a bookstagram photo for event day and then again when I was working on the recap, I had reservations about posting them.  My Instagram account and this blog are mostly YA focused, so like Jen, I wondered if there was an audience for it.

I was sort of hesitant to share them and I don’t know why.

Romance is an amazing genre.  It’s filled with fantastic stories, characters that are easy to root for, and most importantly {to me}, the HEA.  I’ve always been a firm believer in anything that makes you happy shouldn’t be considered a guilty pleasure, so why was I treating romance books like a dirty secret?

I will say some of the covers leave a lot to be…desired.  Some of them are just so ridiculous, but still I can’t look away.

And yet, two of my top 10 books of the year are romance books.  I loved one of them so so so much that I completely reread it the day after finishing it.

All of this to say that I’m going to be doing a romance feature of some sort.  I don’t quite know exactly what it will be because I’m still brainstorming it, but yeah.  It’s happening.

Also, yes. This is sort of a weird discussion post because I’m not sure I’ve actually discussed anything, but I’m relatively proud of myself for putting something out.

Do you read romance books? Who are some of your favorite authors?

It’s the historical covers that make me laugh so much. I usually can’t stop laughing.
      Thanks for reading and commenting!

Yes! I just started reading and I felt so awkward talking about it! It felt almost not Christian and i guess dirty? but it’s not! And it’s really good and I have loved some of the characters as friends! So i’m officially pro romance! If only we could start working on those covers….

I agree about the covers! The contemp ones usually are cute, but the historicals are something entirely different.

Not sure if this is quite up the romance alley, but Rhys Bowen is great (I listened to her books on tape and the narrator is amazing). I haven’t read romance in s while either, but I agree!! They’re great palate cleansers. Sometimes YA series wear me out and I need something quick and fun.

  3. This post was awesome Stacee :D I have not read many romance books, sadly, but gosh, I love that you are reading them and are loving them too :D Eee. But also, yeah, I would really love to see you share more about them too, hugs. <3 On instagram as well, despite the covers, hahaha :D Happy reading love. <3
