The time it was about the Pasadena Teen Book Fest

Posted April 8, 2014 by Stacee in Blog Tours, Giveaways, Interviews | 3 Comments

When I was contacted to be a part of the blog tour to promote the Pasadena Teen Book Fest, I immediately agreed.  I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to go, but the people who are involved in putting it together are pretty awesome, so of course I wanted to participate in any way I could.

And I do have a very special guest… However, before we get to her, check out all of the info on the event!

Event date: Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 12pm-4pm
Venue: Pasadena Public Library, 285 E Walnut St, Pasadena, CA 91101
T-Shirt sign-ups at CustomInk

Check out that line up!

Today, I’m here to put the spotlight on Amy Tintera.  If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve seen that not only am I a huge fangirl for Amy, but I’ve run into her at a few different signings and I always act like a damn fool in front of her.  Thankfully,  she still agreed to do a brief interview.  But, before we get to her answers, let’s check out her book.

15769788The sequel to the action-packed Reboot is a can’t-miss thrill ride, perfect for fans of James Patterson, Veronica Roth, and Marie Lu.

After coming back from death as Reboots and being trained by HARC as soldiers, Wren and Callum have finally escaped north, where they hope to find a life of freedom. But when they arrive at the Reboot Reservation, it isn’t what they expected. Under the rule of a bloodthirsty leader, Micah, the Reboots are about to wage an all-out war on the humans. Although Wren’s instincts are telling her to set off into the wilderness on their own and leave the battle far behind, Callum is unwilling to let his human family be murdered. When Micah commits the ultimate betrayal, the choice is made for them. But Micah has also made a fatal mistake . . . he’s underestimated Wren and Callum.

The explosive finale to the Reboot duology is full of riveting action and steamy love scenes as Wren and Callum become rebels against their own kind.

Sounds good, right?  [It’s so so so good!]

1. Where did the idea for Reboot & Rebel come from?

I got the idea for Wren first. I heard her in my head, saying she’d been dead for 178 minutes, and the story grew from there. I was also intrigued by the idea of zombies, and the notion that maybe they had more brain activity going on than we all thought, so the idea for Reboots grew out of that.

2. Why do you love Wren and Callum and why should we root for them?

I love Wren because she knows who she is, and isn’t afraid to stay the same even when people are pushing her to change. But she’s willing to open herself up, and she’s open to caring about people. It just maybe doesn’t look how most people would expect.

I love Callum because he’s strong, but often not in the physical sense. He has a very strong sense of right and wrong, and he’ll put himself in danger to help others and make a change.

I always hope that readers root for Wren and Callum to not only succeed alone, but also as a team. I think they compliment each other, and watching them take on this dangerous world in different way is fun.

3. Describe the series in 5 words.

Undead teenagers in future Texas.

4. You get the call/email/letter that you’re being published for the first time. What happens next?

I think I cried a little first. Then I got incredibly nervous. In the very beginning I was very nervous it was all going to fall apart and someone was going to call and say they’d made a mistake, they didn’t want my book after all. But then there’s celebrating and a call with your new editor and eventually an edit letter. I think that’s actually the very best time in my publishing journey — everything from getting the call to doing my first round of edits with a real editor.

5. You can only read one book for the rest of your life.  What is it?

If I Stay by Gayle Forman, because it’s one of my very favorite books ever.

amy003editHi! I’m Amy Tintera, and I write novels for young adults. I grew up in Austin, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in journalism. After receiving a masters in film at Emerson College I moved to Los Angeles, where I promptly discovered I didn’t enjoy working in the film industry, and went back to my first love, writing.

My debut, REBOOT, is out now from HarperCollins/HarperTeen, with the sequel to follow in 2014. Film rights have been optioned by Fox 2000. I am represented by Emmanuelle Morgen at Stonesong.

I’ve got to move these books up on my reading list. I put Reboot on my ‘on deck’ list ages ago but never quite got to it. I didn’t enter the contests since I don’t qualify but I wanted to comment so you’d know I appreciate your time and effort. The interview was lots of fun to read! I love Amy’s choice for ‘only 1 book to read for the rest of your life.’ I adore If You Stay!
